The Essential Cabaret

10th Anniversary 2011-2021

The Essential Cabaret

A distanced zoom cabaret essential service.

Join us on March 21 at 6pm Pacific Time to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Gotta Getta Gimmick’s chorus|line|cabaret. With more than 24 cabarets and hundreds of songs and singers, we’re back from hiatus to deliver an essential service online to all of our musical theatre lovers during these isolated covid-times.

Singing is one of the best medicines out there. Since March of 2020 the show-tune community has been suffering, unable to get together and belt one out for a hungry crowd. The Essential Cabaret aims to address this deficiency and provide some join and shared passion with the cabaret community we are missing.

Under the guidance of award winning Musical Theatre professional Jenni Burke and Victoria’s incredible songbird Sarah Carle, supported by producers Clayton Baraniuk and RJ Peters, the Cabaret will feature more than a dozen incredible singers and storytellers in an one-night-only live celebration of musical theatre and those who love it.

The chorus|line|cabaret is a workshop environment for actor-singer-dancers. Like a musical theatre gym, participants hone the skills of their craft with coaches, and expand their knowledge and appreciation of the form. Because of the COVID-19 Pandemic, individual workshop coachings will be provided to participants online, leading up to the cabaret on March 21st. At 6:00pm pacific time the work goes live to our audiences, followed by our traditional “Act 2” where you can bring your party piece, sign up, and belt one out for the group.

Deadline to submit: March 4, 2021

Notification by March 10, 2021

The theme for this cabaret is what musical theatre songs are Essential to you? We’re taking applications for soloists for the Essential Cabaret. If you’re a musical theatre performer and would love to work on your craft and share with a hungry audience – this is for you.

In your submission we ask you to send a one-minute recorded video clip of an essential song selection (just one – can be a quick phone or tablet recording, with backing track).

Soloists will receive a private workshop coaching with Jenni Burke, Sarah Carlé and Clayton Baraniuk in advance of the Cabaret.

Our technical support team will offer some help and troubleshooting to make the most of your sound and video performance for the Cabaret.

Soloists must provide:

  • Top 3 Song Choices
  • Your own tracks
  • A playback system separate from your computer

We have a limited space for solo performances, but in true GGG fashion there will be Act 2 Jump Ups for all to share their lovely talents and songs. Bring your party piece! Drinks specials: whatever is in your fridge!

GGG returns to the Galloping Goose for SKAMpede 2015

Harvey & Quinn

Created and performed by Brad L’Écuyer and R.J. Peters

SKAMpede 2015

July 10, 11 and 12 on the Galloping Goose Trail

More info here:

Antonia may have moved to Vancouver, but Harvey is back on the Galloping Goose with a new workshop presentation following the success of their Bug Out Zombie workshops in 2013. Harvey and their friend Quinn are on the trail to detail some of the many environmental challenges facing the Gorge Waterway – when you have industrial waste and abandoned boats full of squatters the endangered eel grass doesn’t stand a chance. But when Quinn pulls up in a boat instead of their new tour van and the epic summer conservation tour turns out not to be as epic as Harvey was expecting, their friendship and summer tour may be in jeopardy.

RJ Peters and Brad L’Écuyer have been classmates, friends, roommates, collaborators and colleagues for the last fifteen years. RJ is a co-founder of Gotta Getta Gimmick and has worked as an actor, designer and director for companies including the Belfry, Chemainus Theatre Festival, BBRT, Kaleidoscope, Talk Is Free Theatre, Gateway Theatre and CCPA. Brad is the current Artistic Director of GGG and has worked as an actor, musician, music director and composer with companies including the Shaw Festival, The Belfry, Theatre SKAM, Chemainus Theatre Festival, The Arts Club, CCPA and Pacific Opera Victoria. Harvey and Quinn is inspired by GGG’s 2013 Bike Ride show Harvey and Antonia, written and performed by Brad and GGG Artistic Associate Sarah Carlé.
